Concept Note

Introduction

The Visual Design Composition will reflect the site, brand image and accommodates the user needs. Each design composition is consistent with the layout of the previously crated wireframes. The concept note will give details about the reasoning behind design decisions including color schemes, images and Layout.

The Aqua Society of Greater Atlanta is a non profit organization committed to the advancement of aquatic fitness, including the running of workshops and classes for aqua aerobic fitness, supplying educational information, and also the posting of potential Job opportunities to it members. The purpose of this site is to allow for members and potential new participants to have easy access to information that the Aqua Society wishes to impart. This site will also allow these users to look at and communicate with the Society in an easy to use and understand online format.

Target Audience/User Groups

The primary users for the site being developed are between the ages of 25-70 years of age, with a possible high percentage in the older age range bracket. These are men and women from many different cultural backgrounds. Thus due to this broad range of potential users, it is important that the design appeals to all age groups in an inviting and non imposing manner, while being instantly recognizable as a representation of the company that it is presenting and promoting.

Communication and Institution Objectives

The Aqua Society of Greater Atlanta website design project has several communication and business objectives including the following:

  • To provide information to the user and describe what the Society is about and what they offer.
  • To inform the user of upcoming workshops and other potential events in an easy to access and user friendly manner.
  • To give the user the opportunity to see potential job opportunities that may be available to them at any given time.
  • To allow access for the user to see what item are available for them to take home and view from the Aqua Society’s extensive video and DVD library.
  • Allow ease of email contact between the Society and user.
  • All of these objectives were considered in the site design.

  • Hiroshima

    HIROSHIMA

    Concept Note

    Introduction

The Visual Design Composition will reflect the site and accommodates the user’s needs. The concept note will give details about the reasoning behind design decisions including color schemes, images and Layout.

The project will tell the story of Hiroshima in individual section, starting with the development of the Atomic bomb and the events that led to the fateful mission of the Enola Gay itself in the first section. A second and third section will follow this; one dealing with the dropping of the atomic bomb on Hiroshima itself, and the final showing the aftermath that followed that fateful day.

    Target Audience/User Groups

The main target audience of this project is broad and will encompass all social spectrums, ages and social standing. The Hiroshima project is aimed at bringing the tragic story of the world’s first nuclear explosion to people who may have forgotten the horrific impact that this tragic event had on the people of Japan. Hopefully by learning about this event it will awaken the viewers interest in these moments that are long past and make them curious to learn more in their own time, awakening the potential destruction that the human race still face to this day.

    Overall Design Approach

The Hiroshima project will be exclusively a flash based experience giving a greater feeling of interactivity for the user and enable a greater use of video and photo galleries to present the material to the user. A main Flash SWF file will be used as the placeholder file into which separated areas of content will be loaded. This content will include the story told in multiple videos, photos, and text formats. The video will be loaded into a video placeholder when called. By loading content into the Main Flash SWF file in this way will allow for a faster and more efficient user experience even if the user has a slower Internet connection.

    Graphic Style and Typography

The projects look will be used to reflect the desolation and destruction that the bomb caused to the Japanese town of Hiroshima. This will give the viewer a stark introduction visually to the pages content before the actual experience of learning about the event itself begins. Colors that emphasis age will be used throughout the project to help tie in the feeling; aged browns and yellows and sepia tones will be combined with stark grey and will be enhanced by the edition of textures and shadows to help give the project a feeling of depth and emphasis. The chosen fonts for all headings and clicking areas will also reflect both the time being presented and the feeling of devastation. The fonts 1942 and distress will fulfill the aforementioned criteria.

    THIERRY HENRY

    Concept Note

    Introduction

The Visual Design Composition will reflect the site and accommodates the user’s needs. The concept note will give details about the reasoning behind design decisions including color schemes, images and layout.

The Thierry Henry Website will reflect and tell the story of one of the greatest players ever to wear an Arsenal shirt in the clubs long and distinguished history in both written and visual ways.

    Target Audience/User Groups

The main target audience for this site will be people in the soccer community who love the game and are either great admirers of Henry, or wish to learn more about one of the greatest players to grace the game in the last 10 years. This site has the potential of being changed every two months, allowing a new player to be showcased in the same manner as Henry.

    Overall Design Approach

The site will be entirely flash based to allow full use of a custom video player, as well as a non-standard menu system with which the user will navigate the site. The video player will reflect the sites color scheme, as well as allow the playing of multiple video clips with a video scrolling feature. All files will be loaded into the site using a Holder SWF file into which other content SWF files will be loaded when called by user interaction, this will decrease load time for users who have a slower internet connection speed. The text for the Biography page will be loaded in a HTML format, which will be scrollable when loaded. The image galleries information will also be loaded dynamically and this content will be changeable through the use of XML.

The Henry site will comprise of three sections; Biographical, Video highlights and a history in an image gallery. The Biographical section will be broken down into individual club histories and will also include Henrys time playing for the French national team. The Video section will focus on Henrys career with Arsenal and will present a user selectable season-by-season highlights package. This section will also lend itself to showing an interview with the player himself as well as his top 3 all time favorite goals. The image gallery will be a simply present still image history with notes to explain the significance of each image event presented.

    Graphic Style and Typography

The look that will be chosen for the site will emphasis the players tie to Arsenal football club. This will lead the sites color scheme to reflect this, with mostly reds, whites and yellows dominating this area of the design elements. Fonts for the project will be modern to reflect the time that this portrays. The Euro-style typeface will be chosen for heading and areas that require emphasis in conjunction with another modern typeface, Univers. Verdana will be used when large text blocks are produced for the user to read.
